They shout at the television and also at furniture that happens to be in their way just when they need to get to the bathroom or the kitchen and not a day goes by in which they don't meet at least three idiots, several degenerates, rude types and people whose sole objective is to cheat them and to make their life difficult - such as, primarily, waiters, taxi drivers and service providers.

True, I've yet to come across another person like my father who was able to "scientifically" prove to himself that the lottery ticket vendor "purposely" sold him only losing tickets, but it's reasonable to assume that if I persist for enough years in my new state as an available woman, it won't be that long until the grumpy-old-man type will start looking like what the future holds in store for me.

Alberta to spend $54 million to reduce wait times

... In December, researchers announced a pilot project had dramatically reduced waiting times across the province for hip and knee replacements to 10 weeks from 90.

At the time, it was suggested the program could be used as a model elsewhere in Canada.

Evans says it's time to expand the idea in Alberta first.

The minister says the new projects haven't been determined.

Health Fest Lincoln to be held at recreation complex

... In addition, the Sickle Cell Foundation of Atlanta will have its van on the premises for those interested in being screened for the sickle cell trait.

This usually involves a simple finger stick.

Likewise, hot dogs, hamburgers, and other snacks will be available at concession stand run by members of the Mulberry C.M.E.

Church.

The proceeds will benefit Lincoln County's American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life set for Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13, at Buddy Bufford Field.

All members of the community are encouraged to participate in Health Fest Lincoln.

As part of Minority Health Month, the health department is also launching a campaign to inform the public about the dangers of various diseases that seem to target minorities.

The first on the list is sickle cell disease.

According to Cynthia Fox RN, local health department facility administrator, "Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells.

Although more members of minority groups actually suffer from the disease, it does not discriminate between races or ethnic groups.

"Sometimes, these red blood cells become sickle or crescent shaped and have difficulty passing through small blood vessels.

"When sickle-shaped cells block small blood vessels, less blood can reach that part ...
