AIA director Slemmer diagnosed with cancer... “They told me there was cancer present in one part of my prostate," said Slemmer, the AIA's executive director since July 1999. “They believe we caught it very early and it is easily treatable." Slemmer is weighing several treatment options and will visit his doctor next week as well as seek a second opinion. He said he is leaning toward surgery by the end of May at the latest because “it's really the safest and most effective option." He expects to make a final decision in the next week or two. “I'm really optimistic," Slemmer said. “It's just a bump in the road."
