Survivor helps men cope with prostate cancer... Friday, April 28, till noon Saturday, April 29 Nauset Regional Middle School, Route 28, Orleans What is Relay for Life? The 21-hour event was designed to illustrate that cancer never sleeps. Teams gather at Nauset Regional Middle School track walking or running laps. Each team will have at least one team member on the track at all times. The remainder of the team often camps out alongside the track. All walkers are encouraged to raise at least $100 for the event. When the sun goes down, hundreds of luminaria light the way under the stars and a moment of silence falls during the Ceremony of Hope. Luminaria are paper bags filled with sand and candles. The luminaria symbolize people, each with a name and a story to tell. Cancer survivors officially kick off the Relay for Life, taking one lap, together, around the track. They wear a special T-shirt, medallion or sash. Some are years past treatment and others are still in treatment. Some walk unaided, some are in wheelchairs.
