Laurie Blakeman, the Liberal health critic and MLA for Edmonton Centre, wondered why the government plans to privatize health care if the public system can work so efficiently.

"We have an excellent project that really works and it works in the public system, which is better for cost containment, cuts the waiting lists and we have fewer adverse effects as a result of it," she said.

Blakeman added such successes in public health care should also be protected.

"I would not like to see innovation developed in the public sector sold off to the private sector for some shareholder to make money from," she said.
