Other relays in the East Bay will be held in San Leandro, Castro Valley and Berkeley this year.

About three-quarters of the money raised goes toward cancer prevention, research, treatment and patient services, according to the cancer society.

The relay committee in charge of organizing the inaugural Union City event is looking for volunteers.
