"Having your father as your best friend is a very unique thing." It's a safe bet that Tiger has returned to Orange County this week, after competing in the Tavistock Cup in Orlando, Fla., so he can visit his father between practice sessions at Big Canyon Country Club while preparing to defend his title at next week's Masters.

Champions Tour pro Peter Jacobsen, who withdrew before the final round of the Toshiba Classic because of persistent knee pain, says on his Web site blog - www.pjp.com - that he is "very encouraged" after beginning a series of weekly Synvisc injections.

The synthetic fluid injected into the knee is intended to lubricate the joint, regenerate cartilage and ease the pain of osteoarthritis.

"I can report that I am experiencing tremendous relief after only one shot," said Jacobsen, who told me he hopes to return to the tour in 3-4 weeks.

Unbeknownst to me, my golf buddies entered me in a Players Championship pool last week in which Davis Love III was my blind-draw pick.
