Doctor spent 30 years bringing babies into world... He was an avid mountain climber and a hiker who sometimes traveled hundreds of miles on foot and was committed to trail preservation. "When I came back to Yuma and started my practice in 1970, Lester introduced me to mountain climbing and hiking the Grand Canyon," said retired Yuma surgeon Dirk Frauenfelder. "I went with him on about six of the treks. I was always impressed when we'd get to the Grand Canyon ranger station — all the rangers knew him and were helpful in issuing permits. He had the most ecological mind and knew about the history of the canyon. He rafted the river several times, but I didn't join him on any of those rugged trips." Born Dec. 11, 1936, in Marysville, Tenn., Olin received his medical training in Tennessee and arrived in Yuma in June 1966 after working for the U.S. Health Service in Dallas and completing his medical residency. He delivered his first baby in Yuma on July 16 at Parkview Hospital, now the Yuma Regional Medical Center. "He was a wonderful guy, we worked together, our word was our bond," said R. Franklin Johns, who practiced with Olin. "We were partners until retirement, and had our own offices at 2444 S. Avenue A. Robert Delph shared an office with us part of the time.
